Alameda County Reading Association Awards Mini-Grants to Three New Haven Teachers
The Alameda County Reading Association is pleased to award three mini-grants for the 2015-‐16 school year to NHUSD teachers.

The Alameda County Reading Association is pleased to award three mini-grants for the 2015-‐16 school year to NHUSD teachers.
Linda Chew is a second grade classroom teacher at Delaine Eastin Elementary School. She will be purchasing a yearlong classroom membership for Raz Kids for her classroom and another second grade class to be used on their Nexus 7 tablets. Raz Kids is an online comprehensive, leveled reading resource for students to use on mobile devices both in the classroom and at home. The Raz Kids membership will offer hundreds of eBooks at 27 different reading levels.

Carmen Kraska teaches second grade at Searles Elementary School in New Haven. She will use the grant monies to purchase high-interest, leveled Pioneer Valley Books. These clever, leveled texts will support students’ growth as readers and put more high-‐interest, leveled texts in student hands, helping them become better strategic readers who are able to read critically and monitor their comprehension.
Beth Morris is a TK to fifth grade science teacher at Delaine Eastin Elementary. She plans to purchase recreational reading books to supplement the Story Time Slime Science Workshop. This program teaches hands-on science correlated with children’s literature. This will add the fun of informational fiction to the current resource of non-fiction, and will create learning connections that children remember.will create learning connections that children remember.
