Candlelight Vigil Set Tonight For CHP Officer Camilleri
The husband and father of 3, was killed Christmas Eve 2017 on I-880 when an alleged drunk and high driver hit his patrol car.

HAYWARD, CA – A candlelight vigil is planned in Hayward tonight, Monday, Dec. 17, for California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Camilleri, who was killed in the line of duty by a suspected impaired driver on Dec. 24, 2017.
CHP officials and Camilleri's widow will speak at the event, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CHP Hayward office at 2434 Whipple Road.
The driver arrested in the case, Hayward resident Mohammed Ali, 22, was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when he rear-ended the parked patrol car around midnight Dec. 24 on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward, killing Camilleri and injuring Officer Jonathan Velasquez, officials said. Ali faces murder and other charges in the fatality.

The CHP said it hopes the vigil will serve as a reminder of the officer's life and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
