Chabot College To Celebrate Commencement

The college will confer over 1,000 degrees this year. More than 500 students are expected to participate in the two ceremonies.

From Chabot College: Chabot College, part of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, is proud to announce commencement ceremonies for the class of 2018 on Friday May 25th in the Reed L. Buffington Performing Arts Center, building 1300 at 25555 Hesperian Boulevard in Hayward.


The first graduation ceremony will be held from 4:00 to 5:30pm, with the second ceremony to follow from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Chief Darryl McAllister, Union City Chief of Police, will serve as the keynote speaker.

The college will confer over 1,000 degrees this year. More than 500 students are expected to participate in the two ceremonies.

"Commencement is the best time of year," said Dr. Susan Sperling, Chabot College President. "We have the opportunity to celebrate our students and their achievements. We celebrate our faculty and staff for their leadership and support of each graduate, and our community for their belief in the power of a community college education. Everything we do comes to fruition on this day and it's an honor to gather and rejoice in this life changing moment."

Chief McAllister served in numerous ranks within the Hayward Police Department for more than thirty years. He is a recipient of Hayward's Police Officer of the Year Awardand the "Hayward Pearl Award" honoring his volunteer service in the community. Chief McAllister has served as Chief of Police for Union City since 2014.

Chief McAllister is a long-time educator and mentor and is a faculty member at Chabot. Previously, he served as a lead faculty member at the University of Phoenix, where he was awarded the University of Phoenix's "Faculty Member of the Year" distinction for the entire San Francisco Bay Area campus region. He was also selected for the prestigious honor of being named "Person of the Year" by the Southern Alameda County NAACP.

He holds a bachelor's degree in occupational studies from California State University (CSU) Long Beach and a master's degree in administrative development from Alliant International University. He is also an alumnus of the California Command College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Currently, Chief McAllister is completing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Saint Mary's College of California.

Parking for the Chabot College commencement ceremonies will be available at no cost on all student campus lots. Parking regulations will remain in place for all red, yellow and green curbs, blue disabled parking and staff lots, and will be enforced throughout both events.
