Decoto Road Closure: New Dates Set

Perfect. Perfect! The new dates will cause the least grief for local residents.

UNION CITY, CA — Emergency repairs to Decoto Road, originally scheduled to begin Nov. 27, will now start Dec. 27 and last through Jan. 2. The repairs were postponed because parts that Union Pacific needed to repair a railroad crossing weren't available.

The repairs will completely close Decoto Road 24 hours a day between Cheeves Way and Seventh Street. The closure includes emergency vehicles.

The following streets will also be closed to through traffic at Decoto Road:

  • Depot Road
  • Eighth Street
  • Ninth Street

If the work is finished early, the road will reopen immediately.

The rescheduled work is welcome news at New Haven Unified School District, which announced at the time the original dates were set, "This closure will significantly impact families and staff at Emanuele Elementary as well as those at Searles Elementary, Cesar Chavez Middle, and Logan High School." The rescheduled work will happen during the holiday break.

Still, people will be impacted. Detours will be set in place directing motorists to alternative routes but the best plan is to avoid the area, if possible.
