O, Christmas Tree: How To Recycle In Union City
O, Christmas tree, how lovely were your branches. But now, let's get you into compost-mode.

UNION CITY, CA – Your presents were opened, lights and ornaments taken down, and your holiday tree still has one more use -- turn it into compost!
Tri-CED will collect holiday trees at no extra charge through Jan. 31.
On your regular collection day, simply set your tree at the curb or place inside the green organics cart. Trees will be taken to a compost facility to be turned into beneficial mulch and compost.

Please prepare your tree for collection by following these simple guidelines:
- Remove tree stands and all ornaments, tinsel, lights, etc.
- Trees taller than 6 feet should be cut in half.
- Put the tree at the curb next to your green organics cart before 6:00 am on your regular service day.
- Flocked trees and trees coated with fire retardant will be accepted but won’t be composted.
- Natural trees only (NO artificial trees)
If you miss the citywide tree collection, you can put your tree in the organics cart, but cut the tree into pieces that will fit completely into the container with lid closed.
