Save A Life: UCPD Urges Filipino-American Community To Join Donor Registry
A Filipino-American police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department needs a bone marrow transplant.

UNION CITY, CA — A bone marrow transplant has the potential to save someone's life. Whether that person suffers from leukemia, lymphoma or another blood disease, a transplant is the tool to provide a healthy life.
But a successful transplant depends upon how closely the donor and patient match. Family members are tested first. If they aren't a match, doctors turn to the National Marrow Donor Program through Be the Match. Donors of the same ethnicity are needed to provide a match.
The Union City Police Department is raising awareness in the Filipino-American community about the registry because of a fellow officer - a member of the Los Angeles Police Department. Matt Medina is an LAPD officer, a husband and a father. Right now, no one in the registry is a match. His friends, family and Family in Blue are getting the word out that more Filipino Americans need to be in the registry. Right now, a surge in registrants could save Matt's life. In the future, it could be a member of your family.
