3 Teens, Ages 15, 16 - Arrested After Shootout: Union City Police

One of the suspects was shot, while none of the officers were injured, police report.

UNION CITY, CA — One suspect was injured in a shootout Monday night between Union City Police and three suspects in a car. The person who was shot is expected to survive their gunshot wound. All three suspects ran into a neighborhood, triggering an intensive manhunt, but caught and arrested. Two are 16-years-old while the other is 15.

Police released more information Tuesday afternoon, and a few of the details from earlier have been clarified.

The drama began to unfold at 11:35 p.m. when officers tried to stop a stolen car in the area of E Street and Railroad Avenue in Union City. According to a written release Tuesday morning from police, "While making the stop, there was an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of the vehicle and several officers. No officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire."

The suspect vehicle sped away, leaving two suspects behind who ran into the surrounding neighborhood. The stolen car was driven to the area of Railroad Avenue and Whipple Road. All three suspects were quickly located and taken into custody. The suspect who was shot was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

"The three suspects have been arrested for multiple counts of attempted murder of a police officer and numerous weapons violations," police said in a separate written release Tuesday afternoon. "Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues."

Police have extra officers on patrol because of a shooting last week that injured 5 people.

There were multiple street closures in Union City during the morning commute because of the ongoing police investigation. Those streets have now reopened.
