State of the City: 2017

The city became a Compassionate City this year, and 1.2 million sq ft of office space is being constructed.

UNION CITY, CA — Union City Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci and City Manager Tony Acosta recently delivered their State of the City. They highlighted the following:

  • We became a Compassionate City earlier this year to reinforce to our residents that we are tolerant and accepting of all people, regardless of gender, race, national origin or immigration status.
  • We launched a new city website. Our goal was to move away from the traditional look, feel and use of a bureaucratic website and instead, create something that is fresh, modern, and customer-focused. We think you will like it!
  • 1.2 million square feet of office space is being built in the Station District, which is a continuing part of our vision to create a walkable, live/work community at BART (artist rendering below!).
  • Due to the passage of Prop 64 last year, City Council is exploring local regulations on cannabis.
  • We enacted rent and tenant protections for local renters this year, including the establishment of a rent review/mediation process.
