This Week: Relay for Life Committee Meeting, Silent Auction Closes, Free Tax Prep

Here are five things going on this week that you need to know about:
- The , a 24-hour run/walk for cancer awareness, kicks off Monday with a committee meeting at the New Haven Teachers Association office, located at 32980 Alvarado Niles Rd., Ste 812. The event, a national fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, will take place in on Aug. 25 and 26 at . Though the actual event may be held in August, participating teams begin fundraising and hosting community events months in advance. Those who'd like to learn more about Relay for Life or register for the event should attend this meeting.
- Those in need of can visit the Hayward Law Library on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Family Violence Law Center and ACBA Volunteer Legal Services Corporation host this event. For an appointment, call 1-800 947-8301
- Head to the Union City Library on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. to hear author Fred Setterberg discuss his true-life novel, “Lunch Bucket Paradise.” Setterberg's book pairs humor and dramatic firsthand accounts to tell his moving story of growing up in suburbia in the 1950s and 1960s. This event is free and requires no reservations.
- Kitayama’s Silent Online Auction will come to a close this Thursday at 6 p.m. Don’t miss your chance to bid on a variety of items, from gift certificates to local businesses to cruises and getaways. View the auction catalog here.
- Tax time is looming. Don’t get caught unprepared. Stop by the Fremont Family Resource Center for free tax help on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is host by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program in cooperation with the Union City and Newark libraries.
