Union City Fire Station May Close
An analysis of fire services is finished and the recommendation is that one of Union City's four fire stations be shuttered.

UNION CITY, CA — Fire Station 30, located on the Union City-Fremont border, may be closed as a result of a recent analysis conducted on fire service efficiency in Union City. The City Council will hold a study session at 6 p.m. on Tuesday to hear the findings. The City Council is expected to give input on amendments to the City’s contract with the Alameda County Fire Department.
The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers, located at 34009 Alvarado Niles Road. The public is invited to attend.
The City contracted with the Center for Public Safety Management in October of last year with the goal of reducing the rising cost of the fire services while balancing service demands.

The major finding in the report was that Fire Station 30 is not needed to serve Union City residents. Just 10-percent of calls for service were dispatched from the station during a one year survey period with the other three stations taking 90-percent of calls. Closing Station 30 would save approximately $3.2 million each year.
Currently, 22-percent of Station 30 calls are for service are to Newark.
