Union City Fireworks Sales, When You Can Set Them Off

Remember that fireworks that explode or go up in the air are illegal. Here's where you can legally light them to celebrate Independence Day.

UNION CITY, CA — If the 4th of July wouldn't be the same for you without lighting sparklers and other so-called "safe and sane" fireworks, the City of Union City has released updated guidance for residents —

Union City welcomes your participation in providing a safe 4th of July for all Union City residents. Please practice basic safety procedures in compliance with all laws.

1. Deploy fireworks at least ten feet away from any dwelling or structure.
2. Use fireworks under adult supervision and keep a hose handy.
3. Fireworks should be disposed of by soaking them in a bucket of water and then placing them in the trash.

Additionally, please remember:

  • Only State Fire Marshal-Approved “Safe and Sane" fireworks, bearing the seal above, are allowed in Union City.
  • “Safe and Sane” fireworks may be used only between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., July 1 – 4 on your private property.
  • If you intend to use "Safe and Sane" fireworks on property other than your own, you must have written approval from the property owner.
  • Fireworks are not allowed east of Mission Boulevard, in City parks, on school property, or on City streets.
  • Do not use illegal fireworks alongside “Safe and Sane” fireworks. Fireworks that explode or go up in the air are illegal. This includes firecrackers, bottle rockets, and aerial shells and mortars.
  • Property owners can be fined up to $1,000 if illegal fireworks are used from their property.
  • Individuals possessing or using illegal fireworks from any location may be fined up to $1,000.
