Union City Recommends Detours For Decoto Road

The City also warns that the road closure could begin sooner than next Monday, at the railroad's discretion.

UNION CITY, CA — As announced last Friday, Decoto Road will be closed 24 hours a day for a week starting next Monday, Nov. 27. However, the City of Union City also says that the work may be performed sooner.

The reason for the closure is so Union Pacific Railroad can perform urgent safety repairs. The closure will be from Cheeves Way to Depot Road.

The City is recommending the following detours:

  • Residents are suggested to use an alternate route such as Whipple Road or Niles Boulevard to access the Decoto neighborhood.
  • Commuters from the tri-valley and other through traffic are highly encouraged to use route 84.
  • Hayward-area commuters are encouraged to use I-880.

New Haven Unified School District said last Friday, "This closure will significantly impact families and staff at Emanuele Elementary as well as those at Searles Elementary, Cesar Chavez Middle, and Logan High School. Please be prepared to take alternative routes to school if you usually take Decoto Rd. in that area."
