Union City Street Repairs In May

UNION CITY, CA — Road work is planned on dozens of Union City streets this week and next. The city has hired Graham Contractors to apply a slurry seal made of asphalt oil and finely crushed rock. It's designed to protect streets from damage caused by traffic, sun and water.

Residents will need to plan ahead to deal with the road work.

Serviced Streets will be closed to all traffic

On the date the slurry seal is applied, the street will be closed to all traffic including bicycles from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times, but other vehicles and trailers should not be driven or parked on the street the day it is scheduled to be resurfaced. The oil used on your street will track stains onto driveways and sidewalks if driven through prematurely, and it will stain your carpets in your home if tracked inside. Signs will be posted 72 hours in advance.

Vehicles and trailers will be towed to clear the street

If you need to use your vehicle or trailer, it is recommended that you park it on an adjacent street that is not scheduled for slurry seal that day.

Do not water your lawn

Also, please do not water lawns or bushes on the days that construction is scheduled, as this may cause a permanent unsightly appearance on the street in front of your home.

Put your garbage out early

The garbage company has been notified of this schedule, and is prepared to coordinate for early pick-up if your street is scheduled for slurry seal on garbage day. Please have your garbage cans to the curb by 6:00 am if your street is scheduled for on the same day as garbage day.
