Bomb Squad Evacuates Mar Vista Neighborhood

Police arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of making criminal threats and investigated "possible devices" at his home.

MAR VISTA, CA — A bomb squad had evacuated a Mar Vista neighborhood where authorities arrested a man suspected of possessing an unknown chemical substance Thursday.

Police went to a home Thursday morning in the 3400 block of Federal Avenue during a follow-up investigation to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on suspicion of making criminal threats, according Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department. The search was ordered after authorities at the residence discovered some "possible devices," which police later downgraded to "an unknown chemical substance," Herrera said.

The investigation began with the Tuesday arrest of Aaron Best, who was booked on suspicion of making threats, Herrera said.
