Single Sheet Sewing is a modified Coptic stitch using multiple needles. Developed by Keith Smith, this versatile binding is a must for book artists because the open book lays completely flat. It allows opportunities for the artist to use various non-traditional, non-folding materials such as wood, plastics or metal and the separately sewn sheets allow the binder the chance to work across the gutter and spine or to mount photography, drawings, postcards or art pieces. This binding should be in every binder’s repertoire.
