Clown Mask-Wearing Suspect Pleads 'Not Guilty' To Felony Pursuit

A man suspected of donning a comical mask & carrying a fake chainsaw on a cross-county chase to Venice Beach went to court Wednesday.

VENICE, CA — A man suspected of leading police on an erratic car chase from Orange County to Venice Beach, while wearing a Joker costume and mask, pleaded not guilty to a felony charge.

Damik A. Disdier, 40-year-old Santa Ana resident, remains jailed Wednesday instead of $75,000 bail.

He faces up to three years in state prison if convicted of fleeing a pursuing peace officer's motor vehicle while driving recklessly, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

Disdier is due back at the Airport Branch Courthouse on Aug. 6, for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to require him to stand trial.

California Highway Patrol officers chased the suspect, who was driving erratically, from Orange County to Venice Beach, according to CHP Officer Stephan Brandt.

On the day of the incident, news helicopters videotaped the suspect sporting the green wig, and standing through the car's sunroof. Toward the end of the pursuit, he jumped off the car roof and headed to the beach. (See the full video below).

The suspect ambled his way across the sand, then stopped to help "bury" a man and collect a "high five" for his stunt. He then headed to the water's edge while he was surrounded when Los Angeles police and CHP officers arrived.

The motive for the event was unknown as of this report, and a woman who was with him in the car was later released, reports say.
