Kids & Teens - Yoga & Meditation

Yoga, Meditation, Relaxation & Fun for Teens, Tweens, Kids, and Toddlers at The Moving Joint.

Laura Fuller’s Kids Yoga & Meditation classes have found a new home at The Moving Joint - and just in time for a new school year. These classes are designed for the specific needs of each age group and also out of a love for each child who joins. Yoga gives great enjoyment AND it also can help with difficult transitions or circumstances. These classes support the health of the whole child - body, mind, and spirit - and a sense of deep listening and love that will follow them through life. Giving kids yoga is a beautiful thing.

Laura has taught consciousness through movement to kids and families in the Mar Vista area for 9 years (20 years if you count all areas). She believes that movement can be a powerful force for healing at the level of the individual, family and community. She supports the community through physical and spiritual health in many ways. Whether in her classes, in other groups, or in personal practice, she encourages people to engage with the body and breath as great teachers of compassion and also our ability to create change.

Laura is very happy to be bringing these classes to The Moving Joint where she has been teaching adult classes and meditation workshops for 3 years. Please read through below to consider more of the benefits of yoga for kids and to see the schedule of classes beginning this week. These classes run by 6 week session at a discounted rate, but you are also welcome to drop in for a day. They need minimum enrollment to run, so please enroll soon if you are interested. Also, please check that class is running before you drop in. Sessions begin the weeks of Sept. 14th and Nov. 2nd, but please reach out anytime you see the post and come give class a try. In the tween and teen years, yoga can be so valuable in keeping bodies healthy, and building a foundation of inner strength. Poses, breath, self-insight, relaxation and meditation will be used to help students build confidence in their own abilities and knowing. These are some of the most powerful years in life. Students will be encouraged to be bold in all their endeavors while cultivating self-love. Poses & breath will be used to build strength, playfulness, and the experience of slowing down enough to listen to life. This class is led by Laura Fuller.

Family Style Class Laura also has a family style class a little further East at Palms Recreation Center

Family Style Class ages 4 & up • Wednesdays 5:15 at Palms Recreation Center. Starts September 30th

This class is designed so that your family can yoga together. It will help develop the understanding of everyone finding their own yoga and how - even if we are different ages and abilities, it is beautiful to get connected through movement and breath. Poses will be led, some talking, some movement, and then a sweet shavasana and meditation to end your day. For this class, you will only pay for students under 12. Family members over 12 are FREE $70 for $7 weeks per child. This will be a wonderful class.

We are, in many ways, a product of our environments. As powerful as we may be personally, it is still very important to be aware of the friends we keep and the social atmospheres we walk through. Kids and Family Yoga & Dance classes are important as they provide a space where things like kindness, integrity, commitment, peace, conscious self-expression, internal and external awareness - are valued and socially supported. This is also a space that supports sensitivity to energy, imagination, and the invisible realms of life that often don’t get the credit they deserve.

Each child brings their own belief systems and values. We learn to listen deeply, cultivate compassion and understanding of both self and other. When kids are young, there often seems to be an innate understanding of energy, and perhaps even a powerful intuition. If you teach a 2 year old an om, he will use it when ever he feels stressed to naturally self regulate. When a child is 3 or 4, there is often a connection to joy and a self-confidence and knowing of self in “just being”. One powerful function of yoga is to build in anchors to these positive states which wax and wane through the developmental wave. That way, they can be called upon as we grow up. That joy. That connection to source. That sense that “I have the right to be here” is always inside us. And yoga helps us build it deep, and call it forth when we need it.
