LA's Rep. Ted Lieu Trolls President Trump's Call For Wiretapping Investigation

Rep. Ted Lieu echoed President Donald Trump's call for an investigation of the alleged wiretapping, saying it would expose his wrongdoing.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Rep. Ted W. Lieu, a Democrat from Los Angeles, finds himself in the unusual position of backing President Donald Trump's call for an investigation into the alleged wiretapping of Trump Tower this week. Over the weekend, Trump rocked the political world by tweeting unsubstantiated charges that his predecessor Barack Obama tapped his phones during the election.

Trump called for an investigation, and Lieu thinks that's a great idea. On Monday, he announced his full support of Trump's call for an investigation.

"Bring it on," Lieu said in a statement. "I fully support the White House's request for Congressional investigations into President Trump's explosive claim that Trump Tower was wiretapped."

If Trump Tower was wiretapped, than a federal judge serving on a Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act panel reviewed the evidence "and found probable cause there were agents of a foreign power at Trump Tower," said Lieu.

In terms of transgressions, "We could be looking at a situation far worse than Watergate," Lieu said, adding that "the American people need to know if Donald Trump or his associates colluded with the Russian government during the election last year."

For his part, Trump also sees the alleged wiretapping as a Watergate-level offense.
