Monsters at Altered Space

Michele Mikesell new work "Monsters" takes a look at the human invention of monsters through oil paintings and keen imagination.

The 15 new oil paintings are done in Mikeshell's specific style, much like her earlier installment "Disambiguate." Painting is only the first step in her art process. The work then goes through a series of violent steps, including peeling, scratching and sanding.

Mikeshell's work is set to premiere at Abbot Kinney's First Friday with an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Altered Space will keep the exhibit up for the month of April.
