Motorcycle Officer Hurt In Venice Crash

A Santa Monica Police Officer was hospitalized with minor injuries following the crash on Main Street.

VENICE, CA — A Santa Monica Police Department officer on a motorcycle suffered minor to moderate injuries in a collision with a car in Venice Thursday afternoon.

The officer was traveling along Main Street near Sunset Avenue around 3 p.m. when a Ford Fusion turned in front of him, according to SMPD Traffic Division Sgt. Mike Boyd.

The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital for treatment, Boyd said.

Santa Monica police went to the scene because the accident was just over the Los Angeles-Santa Monica border.

The Los Angeles Police Department is also investigating the collision, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Media Relations Division.

Following the collision with the Fusion, the officer's motorcycle struck a parked Ford Fusion belonging to Robert Tomasch, 42, who had gone for a run, Tomasch told a City News Service reporter at the scene.
