Slow Down with 'A California Minute' at Marine Contemporary

Local artist Jow brings her California-themed exhibit to the Venice gallery.

Marine Contemporary is currently hosting Jow's first solo exhibition "A California Minute" at its Abbot Kinney location. The Los Angeles-based artist's show consists of California-influenced drawings and sketches.

A somewhat comedic take on the California way of life is portrayed in a series of drawing. 1960s California song lyrics and postcard-style imagery offer up the usual cliches about Los Angeles, while sketches using Braille and Morse code highlight Jow's sense of minimalism.

Jow studied art in Vancouver and New York before coming to California. The show's title is a play on words, contrasting "a New York minute" with the opposite coast's easy-going culture.
