Venice Surf Shop Hosts Intimate Music Show: WATCH

Lone Wolfs Objets d'Surf hosted a free "short burst" show last night in Venice.

VENICE, CA – Have you ever rocked out in a surf shop? Last night, Alex Rose and Iva Dawn along with store owner Alex Kemp, sang to an intimate crowd in Venice surf shop Lone Wolfs Objets d'Surf – a free show that felt like a VIP-only event. While a single person with their guitar on a stage can at times, seem underwhelming, all three artists held their own regardless of the fact that their sets were limited to just four songs each.

Iva Dawn started the evening off on the right foot, with songs that sounded like the folk rock version of the whimsical Joanna Newsom. Dawn belted intricate melodies, her voice dancing up and down scales with the same type of ease a classically-trained vocalist would have. Lyrically, her songs left the audience with a twinge of heartbreak until she sang "You're always angry, when you have to wait for me/ When I'm angry, I just smile and I rub your feet." Hear Dawn's set below:

Alex Rose performed right after, with a lighter, more airy sound. She's been featured on Noisey, where the reviewer said her songs are "spectral, sparse tracks, imbued with a warm intimacy thanks in part to the opening bars where Rose may as well be whispering secrets a hair's breadth from your right ear." It was as if Rose let the audience listen into the sweet nothings of her inner thoughts. Hear parts of Rose's short but sweet set below:
