VENICE, CA — The suspect in the summer shooting of two British tourists in Venice was arrested in West Virginia after fleeing the state following the incident, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Monday.

Police said they had originally tracked the suspect, Brandon Manyo Dixon, to Memphis, Tennessee and wrote multiple search warrants to aid law enforcement there. Dixon, however, fled the state by the time authorities could arrest him, according to a statement from LAPD.

"Detectives continued to write more search warrants for phones, social media and other electronics associated with suspect Dixon," LAPD said.

Detectives caught wind that Dixon may have been hiding West Virginia on Dec. 16 and set up surveillance on a residence they believed the suspect was in with the help of the West Virginia United States Marshal Task Force.

Through investigation, police said they received intel that Dixon may have been in possession of several high-power firearms. Despite that, SWAT teams were able to arrest Dixon without incident LAPD said.

Police recovered several firearms at the time of Dixon's arrest.

The shooting incident happened on July 30, 2022 after two British tourists got into an argument with Dixon and his friend outside a bar in the 20 block of Windward Avenue.

The argument escalated into a physical altercation, leading Dixon to begin chasing the tourists with a gun.

"As the tourists ran away, the suspect shot the tourists and then fled on foot from the scene," LAPD said in a statement.

Authorities said the shooting was captured on video. Both victims were taken to a local hospital due to significant wounds from the gunshots.
