Whiz Kids: Zoe and Emma Wiener
Mar Vista Patch's first Whiz Kids are sisters who are helping out victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Names and Ages: Zoe (15) and Emma Wiener (13).
Organization: IKAR, a Jewish Spiritual Community
Accomplishment: Zoe and Emma are babysitting with “Sitters for Justice” to raise money for a teen trip to New Orleans next week, where they will create a vegetable garden in an abandoned lot in the 9th Ward, an area that was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina.

Key to Awesomeness: Zoe wanted to get involved with the other teens at her synagogue, IKAR, and do something meaningful for other people. Emma wanted to be involved in a service project to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment while doing something for people who are not as privileged and fortunate as she is. The sisters became involved with “Sitters for Justice” to help pay for the cost of the trip so that they could feel like they were also contributing financially, and not just expecting their parents to pay.
Do you know a great kid who made Eagle Scout, or did your local cheer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree.

Each week, Mar Vista Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and will select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.
