Viewfinder: Ex-Boxer Turned Barber Shop Owner
Former boxer Phil Barba traded his gloves for scissors in 1968 and opened up shop in Mar Vista.
is located on Washington Boulevard in a spacious strip mall that also houses the Inside the shop is Phil Barba, who has been cutting hair and greeting customers since 1968.
His vintage signage, sports memorabilia and boxing gloves line the shelves and walls of his neighborhood barber shop.
Fellow barber, Steve Duarte and employee Larry G. hang out on a weekday afternoon waiting to cut hair while Barba is busy at work on customer Sal Wilson.
