2 Alarm Apartment Fire In Walnut Creek
There were no injuries. Two units were damaged by the fire, with another two receiving water damage from the firefighting effort.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — A fire in a Walnut Creek apartment building that left several people displaced Tuesday night most likely started in a kitchen, according to a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
At about 8 p.m., fire crews responded to a call about a fire in a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of Sierra Drive.
As crews arrived, they determined that the fire was spreading into a second apartment and called in a second alarm, which resulted in additional firefighters and equipment being dispatched to the scene, according to Fire
Marshal Robert Marshall.

The fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes, but not before it caused an estimated $500,000 worth of damage.

Two units were damaged by the fire itself, and two sustained water damage during the effort to extinguish the blaze, which investigators have determined was accidental. "We think it started in the kitchen but was not a cooking fire," Marshall said. "We think it was an appliance or something else plugged into an outlet."

No one was injured but several people were forced from their homes as a result of the blaze and were assisted by the American Red Cross, Marshall said.
