John Muir Health made the holiday season a little brighter Monday for hundreds of local families in need of food with a $50,000 check to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
Making the presentation was Ken Anderson, president and chief executive officer, and Ray Nassief, vice president of operations and support services. The Food Bank feeds more than 132,000 people each month.
In 2008, a John Muir Health employee suggested that the funds used for internal holiday celebrations could be donated to the food bank. The idea was so well received by employees that a collective decision was made to carry on the tradition for the third straight year.

"The outpouring of support for this donation reflects the generosity of our doctors, nurses, and staff members who are committed to helping the members of our community this holiday season," said Alice Villanueva, senior vice president of human resources for John Muir Health. "This year, our donation will provide 100,000 meals for Contra Costa and Solano county residents."
