Assistance League Partners with Wells Fargo for Food Boxes Assemblage
Together, community partners and volunteer organizations nurture at a deeper level.

Assistance League® of Diablo Valley is a nonprofit, member volunteer organization dedicated to improving lives in our community through hands-on programs. Its 16 programs are primarily funded by the Assistance League Thrift Shop, located in Lafayette.
Additionally, since 2006, Assistance League of Diablo Valley has cultivated a Community Partners component, where employee volunteers from local agencies, businesses and corporations become hands-on involved with philanthropic programs. On May 17, energetic employee volunteers from Wells Fargo, Concord and Oakland, made yet another return visit to the chapter offices, this time to get hands-on involved with Food Boxes, one of seven community needs programs that provides outreach.
Community Partners Committee Co-chairman Pam Pitts directed the Wells Fargo volunteers to tables laden with shelf stable, healthy foods. Assistance League President Veronica Gant explained that the Food Boxes Program is ongoing for obvious reasons. “Food Boxes was one of the programs that became even more relevant during the pandemic with food insecurity becoming so widespread. It is designed to help working families who run out of food towards the end of the month. We have provided 300 boxes so far this year and, for the first time, plan on providing more over the summer. These will help families whose children are not in school and, therefore, will not necessarily be receiving the breakfasts and lunches that schools provide.”

In a mere two hours’ time, Wells Fargo volunteers effortlessly filled 60 boxes to capacity with such items as peanut butter and jelly, canned soups, vegetables, fruits, tamales, tuna, roast beef and chicken, macaroni and cheese, as well as toothpaste and soaps. The food boxes will be transported to CAL Works, where they will be made available to identified families in Bay Point and Richmond.
The Food Boxes Community Program does not merely aid in food distribution; all involved nurture at a deeper level. When philanthropic-minded organizations pool their resources and talents to help those in need, the entire community thrives.
