Coronavirus Cases Top 1,000 In Contra Costa

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Contra Costa County reached 1,014 on Friday, according to health officials, as 16 new cases were announced.

The number of deaths did not increase. It remains at 29.

People hospitalized for complications of COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus, is now just 16. A chart prepared by the county shows a steady decline in hospitalizations over the past several weeks.

Mother's Day is this weekend, but restaurants will remain closed except for takeout or delivery. Contra Costa County, like most of the Bay Area, is not following state guidance to loosen restrictions.
