I am not the first person who has posted on Walnut Creek Patch about parking problems at Avalon Bay in Walnut Creek by the Pleasant Hill BART station. (See here and here) I parked at one of the two parking garages last Friday, adhering to the 2 hour parking limit, I moved my car to the other parking garage because I needed to hang out in the area for a little more time. When I returned to my car before my 2 hours were up in the second spot, I discovered a parking citation on my car windshield.
I called ParkSmart, which is the parking attendant company that oversees/enforces parking at Avalon Bay. The customer rep tells me what I did was against the rules, and I can submit a written dispute. She said I can only park in the area 2 hours a day. I asked if I went to Starbucks at Avalon Bay and used the parking in the morning for 2 hours, left the area for lunch, and came back to Starbucks in the afternoon, would I be able to park again - she said no. There are no signage indicating that there is a 2 hours/day rule.
With businesses such as Starbucks, Eyebrow Bar, Allstate insurance, and a ballet school for kids; and eateries like Parada, Enroute and another restaurant/bar planned, how does Avalon Bay expect customers to patronize the businesses if people cannot park for more than 2 hours? The previous post indicated there will be parking meters installed, and that customers will not be penalized for moving their cars to other spaces in the Avalon Bay area if they needed more than 2 hours - well, apparently not...the ticket is $30.
