WALNUT CREEK, CA — Walnut Creek's Police and Public Works departments have won public praise from City Manager Dan Buckshi. He credited members of those departments with a quick and professional response to last week's closure of Ygnacio Valley Road after a large tree fell, taking out power lines as it crashed to the ground.

Police officers set up detours for traffic while public works crews removed the tree. "Our traffic operations team monitored the entire roadway system using cameras and other technology," Buckshi said in a written release, "adjusting signals along nearby alternate routes to ease backlogs as much as possible. PG&E worked through the day and evening to restore power and repair damage to its poles, with the roadway completely back open in less than 24 hours."

In addition, Buckshi said that city crews have done extensive work to mitigate the impact of winter weather, from clearing storm drains and trimming trees, to making sure sandbag stations are stocked and ready for residents and business owners.
