East Bay Congressman Mark DeSaulnier is in critical but stable condition Tuesday, his 68th birthday, weeks after he was injured in a fall.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (D–Contra Costa County) remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition on Tuesday, his 68th birthday — more than two weeks after he suffered a traumatic rib fracture during a fall and later contracted pneumonia.
"We’ve been heartened by all the support, strength, and birthday wishes for our Dad," DeSaulnier's sons, Tristan and Tucker, said in a statement. "It’s inspiring to hear from so many who care for and have shared so much with him over the years."
The congressman's sons said their father has been "characteristically resilient" since the injury, which he suffered during a run.
