• Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers, district reach tentative agreement, potentially averting strike (santacruzsentinel.com) — Teachers and district leaders in Watsonville's Pajaro Valley Unified School District have reached a tentative agreement that could avert a strike and keep schools running smoothly. The deal includes a 4% salary increase, optional paid workdays, more support for kindergarten and special education teachers, and, crucially, preserves current health benefit structures that educators feared would be capped. Union members and the school board still must ratify the terms.

• Watsonville Community Hospital nurses rally to save NICU (nationalnursesunited.org) — Nurses at Watsonville Community Hospital are organizing a rally Monday, Aug. 31, at noon to demand the reopening of the hospital's recently closed neonatal intensive care unit.
