• Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers, district reach tentative agreement, potentially averting strike (santacruzsentinel.com) — Teachers and district leaders in Watsonville's Pajaro Valley Unified School District have reached a tentative agreement that could avert a strike and keep schools running smoothly. The deal includes a 4% salary increase, optional paid workdays, more support for kindergarten and special education teachers, and, crucially, preserves current health benefit structures that educators feared would be capped. Union members and the school board still must ratify the terms.

They warn the shutdown endangers vulnerable newborns, forces families to seek NICU care in Santa Cruz or Monterey, and further erodes vital services for Watsonville's largely low-income, agricultural community.
