Buy A Mask, Feed A Watsonville First Responder
A Corralitos woman and her sister are organizing an effort to send masks to donors who help feed first responders.
WATSONVILLE, CA — Two Corralitos sisters have collected more than $2,665 in donations to buy burritos and sandwiches from Watsonville restaurants and feed first responders serving the community.
Denise Gallant created an online crowdsourcing campaign April 3 on GoFundMe. Since then, she's collected $1,465 on GoFundMe from donors and another $1,200 from neighbors, according to the page.
Meals are purchased from 5 Mile Buzz House and Hidden Fortress in Watsonville. Donors who give at least $40 to the effort will receive a cotton fabric mask and donors who give $75 will receive two.

Gallant said the fundraiser was partly borne out of a concern for the newly opened 5 Mile Buzz House restaurant and partly because her sister, Danielle Gallant, once worked in a hospital and wanted to help feed first responders.
Danielle Gallant has already made about 300 masks for community members and donors, her sister said. She plans on making several more for people without homes in Oakland.

The Gallants have delivered 215 burritos, 50 sandwiches and more than 100 masks as far away as New York and Boston. 5 Mile Buzz House owner Jesus Montejano is selling some of the masks in his restaurant, Gallant said.
Gallant thanked the contributors in Santa Cruz County and beyond who have made their work possible.
