Documented Gang Member Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI, Possessing A Gun: Watsonville PD

WATSONVILLE, CA — Police arrested a man who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and found in possession of a firearm Saturday night in Watsonville. According to police, at 8:25 p.m., an officer pulled over 26-year-old Robert Meza of Watsonville in the area of Rodriguez and Second streets for a traffic violation.

Meza allegedly got out of the car immediately and began walking away. As the officer attempted to detain Meza, he allegedly physically resisted the officer, police said. A brief struggle occurred, during which the officer suffered minor injuries and managed to handcuff Meza, police said.

Officers searched Meza's car and found a loaded gun under the driver's seat, police said. According to police, Meza was also under the influence of alcohol and is a documented gang member. He was arrested on suspicion of being a felon with a firearm and ammunition, resisting arrest, battery on an officer, DUI and gang enhancements. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail, police said.
