Lawnmower Sparked Monterey Co. Grass Fire: Cal Fire Officials

BREAKING: Cal Fire officials said the blaze is a good reminder to residents to practice safe mowing habits.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A lawnmower sparked a 13-acre grass fire in unincorporated Monterey County on Monday evening. According to Cal Fire, the blaze was reported around 6 p.m. and scorched an area of vegetation around Vineyard Canyon and Indian Valley roads before being extinguished at 6:58 p.m. Nobody was injured.

Cal Fire advises the public to practice safe lawn mowing practices, including mowing before 10 a.m., being aware of rocks while mowing, keeping lawnmower blades off weeds or dry grass and never mowing
while it's windy or excessively dry.
