Main Street Business Park Advances Despite Opposition

Plans for the park were rejected by the Watsonville Planning Commission last year, The Pajaronian reported.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Despite environmental and traffic concerns, the Watsonville City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday to advance a proposed business park at 975 Main St., The Pajaronian reported.

Among the council's concerns were plans for drive-thru Starbucks and Chipotle stores planned at the three-acre parcel, council records show. In addition to the two drive-thrus, plans include three one-story commercial buildings of 20,000 square-feet for retail and restaurant use.

The Planning Commission rejected plans for the park last year, but developer Santa Cruz Seaside Company appealed the decision, The Pajaronian reported. The council voted to move forward anyway, fearing the developer would make good on a threat to sue if plans did not proceed.
