A man was convicted of attempted murder in a stabbing last year outside a Watsonville pharmacy that left the victim with a punctured lung.

SANTA CRUZ - A man was convicted of attempted murder in a stabbing last year outside a Watsonville pharmacy that left the victim with a punctured lung, the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday.

A jury convicted Christopher Charles Thyne, 49, after a two-week trial at the Santa Cruz Courthouse for stabbing a man around 2 a.m. on Oct. 25, prosecutors said.

Thyne was found guilty on charges of attempted murder, infliction of great bodily injury and personal use of a deadly weapon, according to prosecutors.

Thyne went up to the victim inside the pharmacy and asked him to go outside where he stabbed him at least six times, four of which entered his chest, prosecutors said.

The victim suffered a punctured lung and has since recovered from his injuries, according to prosecutors.

"It's always difficult when the victim and witnesses are uncooperative, but the officers involved in this case did a thorough job in working through the other evidence available and were able to make the case," Assistant District Attorney Charlie Baum said in a statement.

"The lengthy period of incarceration Mr. Thyne now faces will help ensure the safety of our community. His violence has no place on our streets," District Attorney Jeff Rosell said in a statement.

The 49-year-old man is scheduled for sentencing on May 31.
