Officials ID Man Shot To Death In Watsonville

The 27 year old was found Friday near Main Street.

A man shot and killed in a homeless encampment near Ramsay Park in Watsonville on Friday afternoon was identified today as 27-year-old Carlos Vasquez, according to police.

Vasquez was found when police responded to reports of a man with a gun in the area behind 999 Main St. near Watsonville Slough, police Lt. Saul Gonzalez said.

As officers were dispatched to the scene, a victim with a gunshot wound was reported.

Officers arrived to the area and found the man, later identified as Vasquez, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Gonzalez.

Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene, Gonzalez said. Vasquez was homeless and the area where he was found is known to have homeless encampments, according to police.

No suspects or arrests have been made in the shooting, which is the second homicide in Watsonville this year.
