• 23-year-old man dies after collision with pickup (pajaronian.com) — A Watsonville man driving a pickup was involved in a deadly collision with a motorcyclist Wednesday morning on Corralitos Road near Merk Road, just outside town. The 23-year-old rider later died at a local hospital, and CHP investigators say speed is still being evaluated but drugs and alcohol are not suspected. Residents who use this route should be aware of the ongoing investigation. 
• Monterey woman gets 6 years after drunk-driving crash killed Watsonville woman (ksbw.com) — A Watsonville woman killed in a 2023 Highway 1 crash near Castroville is at the center of a case that just led to a six-year prison sentence for the Monterey driver. Prosecutors say the driver was speeding and more than twice the legal alcohol limit when the head-on collision occurred.
• Community responds to latest Moss Landing fire (pajaronian.com) — A recent flare-up at Moss Landing's battery facility is fueling Watsonville-area opposition to a proposed lithium battery energy storage project on Minto Road, close to dense neighborhoods and College Lake. Local advocates say the site threatens health, farmland and evacuation routes, and they're urging residents to comment to state regulators and attend an Oct. 10 community meeting at Pinto Lake City Park.
