Driver Arrested for DUI After Vehicle Crashes Into Freedom Boulevard Business (crimevoice.com) — A DUI-related crash on Freedom Boulevard in Watsonville sent two people to the hospital and damaged a local business after a Toyota 4Runner hit parked cars and plowed into a building. The roadway was temporarily closed while emergency crews rescued an injured person pinned under the vehicle, and the 73-year-old driver was later arrested on felony DUI charges.
   

2. Measure N brings new equipment to Watsonville Community Hospital (pajaronian.com) — New MRI and CT scanners funded by Measure N are coming online at Watsonville Community Hospital later this month, promising faster, more reliable diagnostics for local patients. The $116 million bond has already financed imaging upgrades, hospital purchase, ER prep work, and other facility improvements, with more than half the funds still available for additional Watsonville-focused projects.
   

3. Watsonville Seeks Next Youth Poet Laureate (tpgonlinedaily.com) — Watsonville is now accepting nominations for its next Youth Poet Laureate, a one-year role starting January 2027 for writers under 20 who study or studied in the Watsonville area. Selected poets will work with the city's poet laureate and library to give public readings, support local literary events, and promote poetry, social justice, and youth voices across the community.
   

4. High School football: Tidwell's three touchdowns leads King City past SLV (fresnobee.com) — Watsonville High's football team is headed to Stevenson next Saturday, giving local fans a nearby road game to circle on their calendars. The matchup comes after Stevenson's big comeback win over Scotts Valley, setting up a strong early-season test for Watsonville in regional Pacific Coast Athletic League play.
   

5. Rainbow Conference brings LGBTQ+ youth, families together (pajaronian.com) — Watsonville High School will host the free Rainbow Conference on Sept. 26, bringing LGBTQ+ youth, families, and allies from three counties together for workshops, resources, and celebration. Local students and organizers are planning youth-led sessions, legal and health presentations, and kid-focused activities, with buses from Santa Cruz County districts helping Watsonville-area teens attend.
