Police Participating In 'Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over' Campaign

WATSONVILLE, CA — Police are warning Watsonville drivers to "drive sober or get pulled over" as part of a high-visibility national enforcement campaign this month. Watsonville Police Department will be deploying DUI saturation patrols during the 18-day enforcement period, which started August 17 and runs through the Labor Day holiday weekend. The department held a DUI/ license checkpoint Friday to kick off the campaign.

The campaign is an effort to reduce the number of drug and alcohol-related collisions, deaths and injuries in the Santa Cruz County. Police warn that impaired driving includes prescription drugs and marijuana.

Drivers are encouraged to designate a driver, use alternative methods of transportation to get home and download the Designated Driver VIP, or DDVIP, a free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds everyone to report suspected drunken driving by calling 911.
Funding for the campaign is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
