Santa Cruz Co. Drug Smuggling Scheme: 8 Suspects Arrested

WATSONVILLE, CA — Police arrested eight people Tuesday morning in Watsonville and other nearby locations in connection with a criminal street gang's scheme to smuggle drugs into a correctional facility, police said. According to Watsonville police, officers served several search and arrest warrants at residences in Watsonville, Moss Landing and the unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County.
According to police, eight people were arrested on suspicion of numerous offenses including conspiracy to smuggle drugs into a correctional facility while being active participants of a criminal street gang. Police also seized marijuana, tobacco, cocaine, five firearms and gang indicia. Police said they were assisted by California Highway Patrol officials and California State Parole officials.
