Santa Cruz Man, Watsonville Woman Killed In Head-On Crash

Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision Saturday night on state Highway 1 north of Moss Landing in unincorporated Monterey County.

MOSS LANDING - Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision Saturday night on state Highway 1 north of Moss Landing in unincorporated Monterey County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deceased, a 42-year-old Santa Cruz man and a 34-year-old Watsonville woman, were killed in the collision reported on the freeway about a half-mile south of Jensen Road around 11:15 p.m., CHP Officer James Burch said.

The man was driving north by himself in a 2002 GMC Sierra and the woman was heading south on the freeway in a 2010 Buick Enclave prior to the collision, Burch said.

Four juveniles traveling with the Watsonville woman were all transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, but Burch didn't know the severity of their injuries.

A 21-year-old Clovis woman in a 2004 Toyota Avalon and her passenger on northbound Highway 1 were also involved in the collision and didn't report any injuries, according to Burch.

Burch didn't have details on how the collision unfolded.

Investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident, Burch said.
