Suspect Arrested In Restaurant Stabbing

The attack was at a Watsonville eatery, and the suspect charged was taken into custody at his Las Lomas home, police said.

WATSONVILLE, CA – A 29-year-old man from Monterey County was arrested Tuesday in connection with a weekend stabbing at a Watsonville restaurant, authorities said.

Omar Contreras was taken into custody at his Las Lomas home during a multi-agency operation that included officials from the Watsonville Police Department, California Highway Patrol and Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office, Watsonville police said.

Contreras is accused of stabbing a 23-year-old man in the chest at a restaurant on the 100 block of Main Street in Watsonville at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, the department said. Officials did not identify the establishment.

The victim was treated at an area trauma center and has since been released, police said.

With the help of surveillance footage and witnesses, officers said they identified Contreras as the alleged perpetrator.

He was was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail with a $375,000 bail.
