Suspected Serial Robber Arrested In Watsonville

Cipriano Vasquez Cruz has been connected to more than 10 armed robberies in the downtown area.

WATSONVILLE, CA -- A 30-year-old Watsonville man was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of committing multiple armed robberies in the downtown area during the last two months, police said. Cipriano Vasquez Cruz was arrested just before 5:45 a.m. after a high-risk traffic stop near the intersection of West Beach and Walker streets.

Cruz, who has been connected to more than 10 armed robberies in the downtown area, matched the physical description of the suspect in the robberies, police said.

Police said Cruz brandished a knife and threatened victims during the robberies.

Detectives were able to develop leads and identify Cruz as the primary suspect this week.

After he was pulled over and arrested, a search warrant was issued for his residence and vehicle, and evidence was found that connected Cruz to the robberies, police said.
