Watsonville Hit-And-Run Collision Kills Woman

Police in Watsonville this morning are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

WATSONVILLE - Police in Watsonville this morning are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Officers with the Watsonville Police Department responded at 1:38 a.m. to a report of vehicle collision with a pedestrian near the intersection of Main and Rodriguez streets and located a pedestrian in the middle of the southbound lanes of Main Street suffering from major injuries.

The victim, identified as a 54-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Witnesses told police they drove up on the pedestrian in the roadway but did not witness the collision.

During the investigation, a 27-year-old man contacted the police department and said he was the driver involved in the collision.

The driver was cooperative with investigators, and the vehicle involved was recovered and towed for evidence, police said.

It does not appear drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision, according to police.

Police said it appears the vehicle was driving south on Main Street at the intersection when the woman attempted to cross Main Street and was struck.
