Comcast, Yolo County Children's Alliance Team Up to Help Hundreds of Students Prepare for School

Comcast and Yolo County Children's Alliance helped hundreds of local students prepare for the upcoming school year during the nonprofit's 10th Annual Back-to-School Resource Fair at River City High School in West Sacramento on July 26.

The event brought together families, students, community organizations, and volunteers for a day focused on supporting educational success. Hundreds of students received free backpacks filled with essential school supplies, helping ease the financial burden on families and ensuring children have the tools they need to start the school year ready to learn.

Attendees also had the opportunity to connect with local service providers, learn about resources available throughout Yolo County, and participate in activities designed to support children and families beyond the classroom.

Comcast employees volunteered through Team UP, the company's volunteerism program, to support the event and help families prepare for the new school year. The annual Resource Fair reflects a collaborative effort among nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools, and volunteers dedicated to creating opportunities for local students to succeed.

“Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces when they chose their backpacks was incredibly rewarding,” said Gurpreet Kang, a Comcast volunteer who participated in the event. “These events do more than provide school supplies. They help students feel confident and ready for the year ahead while reminding families they have support in their community. It was inspiring to see so many local organizations come together around a shared goal of helping students succeed.”

More than a backpack giveaway, the Resource Fair demonstrated the impact that can be achieved when community partners work together to support youth and families. The event strengthened community connections while providing valuable resources that contribute to student success and well-being.
