4 Days 'Til Halloween: Hollywood Miracle of Indivisible Humanity
EL Dia de Los Muertos- A Festival of Mexican Origin In Honor of the Dead, Transforms As Shared Grief for Slain Jews...Unity of Faith
When terrorists target the faithful there is no divide. In many faiths, the occasion of mourning the dead, is also a celebration of the human spirit...as it endures unvanquished...as it persists and continues to thrive.
Even with a limited knowledge of religious liturgy, in grief there is always a refusal to succumb, that makes a wake, also a wake-up call, and after sitting shiva, to mourn these Jews who lost their lives in their house of god, by the cowardice of terror, there remains a solidarity, a spirit always to persist. The convergence of Aztec theology as a salve of unified grief for Jews who were slaughtered in synagogues, their house of worship, is nothing less than a miracle, of being human.
This Day of the Dead was the horror of terrorism, and in a separate place, was the unity of like minds, honoring those who have passed, not the same level of grief, but as festival, at the Hollywood Cemetery, the location helped match sympathy of occasions.

"Scholars trace the origins of the modern Mexican holiday to indigenous observances dating back hundreds of years and to an Aztec festival dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl. The holiday has spread throughout the world, being absorbed into other deep traditions in honor of the dead."

As a postscript, but more a header, than a footnote...California is the best blue state of the union, with clear demarcations between church and state, yet we are not immaculate people, and not always, so uniquely self-defined, the CA Seal of State has the image of the Roman Goddess Minerva...she seems to be an anomaly of the one divide we embrace, more than others, as a separation of church and state, at the bedrock of our foundation.

I don't think a plausible explanation could come from even Edith Hamilton, the scholar of Greek Mythology, who is the first author read by schoolchildren at the earliest grade level, from whom they learn about the beliefs of Greeks and Romans in polytheism, multiple gods that rule as a collective, much like a double order of West Hollywood City Council Members, but choosing, not just a female god, but a goddess known for wisdom, strength and courage, seems prescient, as a coincidence, but to predict Senator Diane Feinstein and Senator Kamala Harris, both, is like a double lotto winning pair of tarot cards.
Here's a more germane issue of a double standard and an inadvertent double diss, for a category of woman who had been diminished, in the process of political correction, when Christian icons were removed, also deleted, had been the image of Pomona, the Roman goddess of gardens and fruit trees, representing agriculture, and in her place is a generic Native American woman, not even Pochohantas.
"As a day dedicated to spiritual replenishment, this festival honors the Aztec goddess, goddess Mictecacihuatl.awakening, among people, tied to the earth," according to a Wikipedia description.
She would seem comparable to the protector, we have made our common law parent... Mother Nature...divides usually are pegged to rigid interpretations, invested in remaining on opposite sides with opinions that seem equally, harsh, as if by intention. Maybe it's time for a radical concept of making a concession for the greater good- not what's good for those, perceived to have greater, beliefs, often a collusion of self-esteem with bloated egos.
I wonder if Elizabeth Warren could apply some pressure on Jerry Brown or on her CA colleagues to name the agricultural mascot on the L.A. County Seal after the Native American goddess of the harvest, it likely wouldn’t take any percent more pressure than what would be organic, or even, Mayor Garcetti, he’s a multi-cultural horn of plenty already- I don’t think he even needs to prove he’s any part Native American, nor female- either would seem like counter-intuitive wisdom, not to mention, a harbinger of a troubled harvest to come.
